Frequently Asked Questions For Naturopath Services
Are Naturopathic Doctors Different From Medical Doctors?
Medical physicians are reactive, they diagnose and prescribe treatment for the symptoms of a disease that is already in place, emergencies, etc.
A naturopathic physician’s approach is often more proactive and works with the individual to make changes to their health and lifestyle, especially with acute and chronic conditions.
The focus is on the specific needs of the individual, addressing the cause of illness through selecting highly effective natural treatments with the least risk of side effects.
How Are Naturopathic Doctors Trained?
Naturopathic physicians complete a minimum of three or four years of pre-medical university training and then have four years of training at an accredited naturopathic medical college. Naturopaths must successfully complete provincial board exams prior to being granted licensure.
You can read more about the requirements here: http://www.cnpbc.bc.ca/become-an-nd/requirements-procedures/
What Types Of Conditions Do Naturopathic Doctors Treat?
Naturopathic physicians, in the course of providing primary health care, can order diagnostic services. They treat the same conditions as a family doctor and may refer out to specialists or other healthcare professionals when necessary.
Naturopathic Physicians treat:
- Acute conditions, such as the flu, colds, infections, allergies and stomach infections
- Chronic illnesses, such as arthritis, auto-immune disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, eczema, psoriasis, acne, digestion, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and more.
- Women’s health issues, such as infertility, PMS, menstrual disorders, menopausal symptoms, fibrocystic breast disease, and enhancing health in pregnancy
- Other issues, such as mental or emotional stress, anxiety, and depression
