Comparing Advanced Acupressure Massage

How Does Advanced Acupressure Massage Differ From RMT Massage, and Acupuncture?

Advanced Acupressure Massage is a combined therapy that involves Acupunture, Acupressure, and Cupping Therapy all in one 60 minute session.

After your arrival, our acupunturist will asses how you are doing, and get a detailed history of your pain. From there they will focus on a treatment goal while tailoring your session to promote wellness and relaxation.

The therapy starts with acupuncture first, to help target the pain and stimulate the affected area.

Next, acupressure is administerd to help loosen up the tightness in the affected areas and promote the flow of chi in the body.

Finally, cupping therapy is used as a sort of ‘reverse acupunture’. The use of suction on the points of the body increase bloodflow and promote the body’s natural healing power.

If you are new to acupuncture, this is a great way to test the service to see if it is for you.

If you are uncertain about needles and would like to avoid them, we offer a needleless option to ensure you get the most out of your  session with us.

Acupressure is a form of manual therapy used to relieve pain and muscle tension all over the body.

Unlike acupunture, where needles are inserted into the skin, it is performed with fingers gradually pressing onto key points around the body to simulate pain relief, muscle relaxation, and promote blood flow.

Acupressure techniques are used on trigger points within muscles and soft tissues. A trigger point is a neuromuscular point where a muscle and a nerve meet together and cause irritation. This meeting place often causes pain when compressed and can lead to muscle spasms and localized discomfort.

When acupressure techniques are applied, pain is often reduced by interrupting pain signals to the brain and encouraging deep relaxation.

Massage Therapy, seen as a western-style of therapy, is the rubbing of the soft tissues of the body, such as the muscles. Helpful in reducing tension and pain, improving blood flow, and encouraging relaxation, massage therapists usually apply pressure with their hands to affected areas of the body. Some massage styles are gentle while others are very active and intense.

For example, Swedish massage can be seen as a gentle approach and is often used to promote relaxation, improve blood flow, and relieve muscle tension. Using long, gliding strokes and kneading and tapping techniques on the top layer of muscles in the direction of blood flow to the heart. This may also include moving the joints gently to improve the range of motion.

Deep tissue massage is more active and intense. It is used to treat long-lasting muscle tension. The therapist applies slow strokes (with the fingers, thumbs, and elbows) using intense pressure to reach deeper layers of the muscles than those reached with a Swedish massage technique.

While the fundamentals of Acupuncture and Acupressure are the same, the biggest difference is in the use of needles on the patient.

The fundamental belief of acupuncture is that illnesses are the result of blocked or interrupted chi. Chi provides your body with healing energy. Acupuncture seeks to remove these blockages and return your energy flow to a state of balance.

Acupuncture is used to treats hundreds of conditions and symptoms, including:

  • Digestion Issues – Nausea, constipation, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Vomiting, Bloating, IBS
  • Menstrual Cramps/Gynecology/Menopause
  • Energy/Emotional Imbalances – Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks
  • Insomnia
  • Allergies, Asthma,
  • Headaches
  • Addictions
  • Fatigue
  • Hormonal Imbalances – Thyroid Issues
  • Skin Conditions
  • Arthritis/Osteoarthritis
  • Skin Conditions – Eczema, Acne, Psoriasis, Apolecia
  • Immune System Issues
  • Cardiovascular System Issues

Frequently Asked Questions About Advanced Acupressure Massage

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture therapy referres the insertion of tiny, single-use, needles into specific points on the body to promote the body’s natural healing response.

It is based on the framework of a complex network of channels and collaterals that are responsible for distributing essential energy and nutrients all over the human body.

Issues arises when these channels become blocked. Acupunturists correct the flow of these channels by inserting needles into specific points.

Since the network of meridians connects to and integrates every part of the body, from our skin to our organs, acupuncture may be an important part of your treatment plan.

What is Cupping Therapy?

In cupping therapy, a glass or plastic bulb is used to create a vacuum on the skin.

This creates space between the skin, fascia, and muscles, facilitating the flow of blood through the space created.
